Chris Keenan

Ceramics

After twelve years working as an actor, in 1995 Chris Keenan undertook a two year apprenticeship with the potter Edmund de Waal. Since then he has been making pots for domestic interiors that are both functional and decorative. The pots are thrown Limoges porcelain, glazed using combinations of two oriental glazes - tenmoku (a deep, mirror-finish black/brown) and celadon (a vivid pale blue) - and include cups, beakers, bowls, teapots and pots for flowers.

Chris' work is sold in galleries and shops around the UK and features regularly in national magazines & newspapers - most recently in the FT’s "How to Spend It" (feature on celadon glazes, November 20th 2010). His work is also represented in national and regional collections including the V&A and the Ashmolean Museum. In 2005 Chris was commissioned by Habitat to design a dinnerware range: "Sora".

In 2010, following an invitation from the group 60/40 Chris created a new body of work that incorporates an interactive element entitled "Continuing Drama". This colourful and non-functional piece will be seen again at "Collect" 2011. In January 2011, Chris will be exhibiting work at the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art in Japan.
